Ladies – I know. I know. We haven't even finished sweeping up the crumbs from Purim. And now, a shiur about Pesach???? O.K. you are not imagining it. We are a tad early. But after all, Purim did happen on Pesach. (see perek "gimmel") So, let's get in some learning before the cleaning starts and all we have (I'm talking about me here) is matza on the brain. Announcing… The Baka Women's Rosh Chodesh Shiur For (Just Before) Nissan

WHEN: This coming shabbat – March 22 – Parashat "Shemini" 5:00 in the afternoon*
*You all know the drill by now. We start ON TIME. If the front door is closed, it means that the shiur has begun. Please go back to the gate and up the front merpeset and enter from the Library. There will be seats there.

WHO: Leah Malamet is a clinical psychologist and recent olah. She has conducted seminars and participated in panels in Canada, the US, England, and Israel on various Jewish topics, focusing in particular on the interface between Judaism and psychology. Her Torah classes characteristically illuminate psychological elements which can be found within the text.

• Party! Immediately after megillah reading, we are all invited to our kehillah's Purim festivities at the Medved, 6 Zrubavel Street.
• No need to bring food — it has all been ordered already from Holy Bagel (dairy).
• Monday morning, Shushan Purim, shacharit and megillah reading twice: 6AM and 7:30AM.
• Women's megillah reading at 10AM sharp at the Medveds'.

young) enough to sit still. NO TODDLERS PLEASE! (and please remember
that 2 dogs also live here – we do not need extra pets)

– Feel free to invite a friend, but remember that there is LIMITED
seating. Please do not post this on facebook, twitter, or any other
public venue.

– It is a busy day and we WILL START ON TIME. (if the front door is
closed, it means we have already begun, and you can go around to the
front balcony and enter by the library where there will be chairs)

מי שלא יכול היה להתפלל אצלנו בשבת האחרונה הפסיד קידוש נהדר עם ברכות כֹּה יפות של הרב שלמה וילק לרגל הִגִיעָן לגבורות של אסתר ליכטנשטיין ורות רקובסקי:

בס"ד ש"ק פרשת 'ויקרא', אדר ב' תשע"ד

אסתר,

במגילה שאת קרויה על שמה שם אלקים נסתר, והקב"ה לכאורה שותק. אלא שדווקא במקום שיש שתיקה וענווה והסתר, שם מגלים את שם ה', מעבר למילים. לא ברעש ה' אלא בקול דממה דקה.

בעולם בו גבורה נמדדת בכח אנו יודעים שגבורה היא דווקא בשקט ובענווה, במקום בו עושים ובונים לשם שמים וביראת שמים. זכית, את ואישך היקר שכולנו כה מתגעגעים אליו, לבנות את בית ישראל מן האפר שנותר, ומן הנותר מן הכלים השבורים ידעתם לנסוך שמן חדש ולחדש את אור ישראל בקדושה. בביתכם, עם בני משפחתכם, ובעם ישראל.

אנו מאחלים עוד שנים ארוכות של דממה דקה וקול גדול, שימשיך לזרוח האור שהבאתם לעם ולקהילה. וכל בני ביתך, בית שב"ה הולך ואור, הולך וגדל, יזכו למה שזכינו אנו וזכית את, לרוב ברכות ואחרית שלום בגילוי פנים שבאסתר.

רות,

מידת הגבורה מתחילה בשמים באמא העליונה, זו המקבלת את הברכה והחסד מאת הבורא ומעבירה אותו לאלו המבקשים, לילדיה, לאנושות כולה. גבורה היא היכולת להעניק ברחמים, בתבונה ובשמחה. מידת הגבורה מגיעה אל הארץ, לספירת המלכות, אל הבת, אל הקהילה והעם המבקשים טוב מן האם.

זכינו להגיע איתך לגבורות, בענווה כה גדולה, בשמחה ובאהבה שאת מעבירה לכולנו, בגעגוע לאישך, רבינו, שאת זכרו את נושאת בגבורה. אנו מאחלים כי ירבו השמחות בביתך ההולך ומתרחב, שנמשיך ליהנות מן הברכה הבאה על ידך בחיוך אוהב כל כך ובעדינות נפש נפלאה.

Whoever could not be in shul this last shabbat missed a nice kiddush and especially the brachot which Rabbi Vilk composed for Esther Lichtenstean and Ruth Rackovsky, who began by pointing out that these wonderful people are the only two ladies for whom books are named in the תנ״ך :

Esther,

In the Megillah for which you are named, God is hidden (nistar), silent as it were. But davka in a place where there is silence and modesty — there you will find God, beyond words. Not in a great noise but rather a silent voice.

In a world which values power, we know  that heroism can be about quiet modesty, too, about God-fearing, doing and building "l'shem shamayim". You have had the privilege, together with your dear husband whom we so miss, of building a home in Israel — literally from the ashes. From broken vessels, you knew how to pour oil anew and renew the holy light of Israel: in your home, your family, and the nation of Israel.

We wish you long years of a quiet but great voice that will shine the light you have bestowed on your nation and your congregation. And all your family, one that thank God continues to flourish and grow, will be privileged to that which we and you have enjoyed — the blessings of peace — openly and in quiet ("esther").

Ruth,

The measure of gevurah begins above all with the mother, who receives the blessing and grace from our Creator and passes it on to those in need, to her children in particular and humankind in general. Gevurah (heroism/strength) is the gift of giving others, in compassion, in wisdom, and in joy. Gevurah reaches earth, it is said, to the daughter, to the kehillah, and the nation who seek it from the mother.

We have been blessed to see you reach the age of strength, in such outstanding humility, joy and love which you give us all, together with your dear husband ז״ל, our teacher, whose memory you also bear in gevurah.

We wish you continued smachot in your growing family. May we continue to relish the blessing of your loving smile and your wonderful gentleness.
