ועד בית הכנסת אישר הקמת ועדת חסד חדשה לעזור לאבלים להתארגן לשבעה. יו״ר הועדה הוא ישראל זרובניק, חברים אחרים הם סטיבן דרוקר ושׁרלוֹט בלומנפלד, ונשׂמח לקבל מתנדבים נוספים.
במקרה של פטירת קרוב משפחה, יפנה האחראי מטעם המשפחה לועדת החסד, שיספק את השרותים הבאים:
- לסייע בהדפסת מודעות אבל
- נעמיד לרשות המשפחה:
- נר זכרון לשבעה ימים
- כסאות אבלות בכמות הנחוצה
- ספר על מנהגי אבלות
- להיערך לקראת התפילות בבית האבלים על פי צרכיהם כולל:
- להשאיל ספר תורה נייד בארון נייד ולהדריך באשר לשמירתו וכללי הביטוח
- 20 סידורים
- לפרסם מועדי התפילות ולעודד את חברי הקהילה להגיע לעזור בהשלמת מנין
- לארגן סעודת הבראה לאחר חזרה האבלים מבית העלמין (על חשבון הקהילה)
- לאפשר סידור לארוחות במשך השבעה. ברוב המקרים המשפחה תבחר נציג(ה) שיארגן את הארוחות ואנחנו נפרסם את הפרטים באתר. או שנעזור ע״י מסמך באינטרנט (דוגמא) שדרכו המשפחה וחברים יכולים להירשם לארוחות. נוכל גם להמליץ על שרות קייטרינג לאלו שרוצים לעזור אבל בוחרים שלא להכין בעצמם.

The Shul Board recently approved a new Hesed Committee to help mourners deal with setting up shiva. Steve Zerobnick is the chairperson, and the other two members are Steven Drucker and Charlotte Blumenfeld, though we are looking for more volunteers for this important project.
In the event of the death of a relative, a responsible family member should contact the committee Chair for assistance.
Committee functions:
- Help organize the printing of obituary notices.
- Provide seven day memorial candle.

- Lend shiva chairs.
- Provide book about mourning customs and laws
- Lend the portable Sefer Torah scroll and provide guidance regarding its safekeeping and the insurance guidelines
- Lend 20 siddurim
- Publicize the times of davening and encourage the community to help make a minyan
- Organize the se’udat havra’ah after the mourners return from the cemetery, to be paid for by the kehila
- Simplify the organization of providing meals during the shiva by referring shul members, family and friends to a person chosen by the family. The shul will publicize the name of this person and contact details on the website. In some cases we will set up a web document where friends and family will be able to register to provide specific meals (see example). The committee will also recommend a suitable caterer for those who want to send in meals in this way.
