  • דברי הרב וילק: אני מלווה את קהילת שארית יהודי אתיופיה הממתינים לעליה. חזרתי לפני כמה ימים בעוד ביקור בקהילות הנפלאות שם, ואשמח לספר על הנושא לכל המעוניין. לצערי הצעירים בגונדר חסרי תעסוקה, בעיקר בגלל שבאתיופיה עובדים גם בשבת. הם זקוקים למחשבים ניידים. אם יש למי מכם מחשב במצב טוב, לא צריך חדש, ותוכלו למסור אותו אחרי מחיקת כל המידע, אשמח להעביר אליהם. מעבר לזה, אנו זקוקים למחשב חזק לאחד הצעירים, בעיקר לשימוש בAI ועריכה. תודה וגאולה שלמה בקרוב ב"ה.

  • During these very hot summer days, it's important that our air conditioners be working properly. Therefore, we ask our members to make sure that all of the windows and the front doors remain closed.
  • From Rabbi Vilk:
    I have been accompanying those remaining of the Ethiopian Jewish community waiting to make Aliyah. I returned a few days ago from another visit to those wonderful communities, and I would be happy to speak about the topic with anyone interested.
    Unfortunately, the young people in Gondar are unemployed, mainly because in Ethiopia people also work on Shabbat. They are in need of laptops. If any of you have a computer in good condition—it doesn't have to be new—and can donate it after wiping out all personal data, I would be happy to pass it on to them.
    Besides that, we need a powerful computer for one of the young people, primarily for use in AI and editing.

  • Mazal tov to Rav Aaron and Pearl Borow on the birth of a great-grandson to Chaim and Tzivia Zimmerman of Scottsdale, Arizona. Mazal tov also to grandparents Becky and Joe Zimmerman and Shira and Yehoshua Nudell.

  • This article written by our member, Howie (Shimon) Kahn, appeared in last week’s Jerusalem Post Magazine. It tells the story of a Torah scroll his family took with them when they escaped from Nazi Germany in 1937.

  • כמנהגנו, בין מנחה קטנה בשבת ב-18:45 לערבית, נקיים סעודה שלישית חגיגית לכבוד יום ירושלים. את הסעודה תורמת משפחת הבא, לעילוי נשמת אמו של משה – סעידה בת חתון הבא.

  • Mazal tov to Tanya and Alex Pomson on the birth of a grandson, Iyar Yoseph, a son to Naomi and Ittai Pomson.
  • Yom Yerushalayim: a festive arvit will take place tonight, Thursday, May 14, beginning at 7:55pm. Light refreshments will be served after both morning minyanim.
  • Per our custom, on Shabbat, between mincha ketana at 6:45pm and arvit, we will have a communal se’udah shlishit in celebration of Yom Yerushalayim. This year's se’udah is contributed by the Habba family, in memory of Moshe's mother – Sa'idah bat Chatoun Habba.
  • Therefore… Rav Vilk’s Shabbat shiurim: only the shiur on Daf Yomi will take place this Shabbat – at 6:30am – and not the afternoon shiur.
  • Also, the women's Tehillim group will not meet this Shabbat.
  • Tikkun Leil Shavuot: All are invited to our tikkun on Thursday evening May 21, at 10:00pm – see details here.

Shabbat Rosh Ḥodesh – Tazria-Metzora

  • There will be kiddush on Shabbat after the 9:00am minyan, sponsored by Hedy and Ben Lipschitz and family to mark the 39th Yahrzeit of Ben’s father, Judah Leib (Jerry) Lipschitz ז״ל.
  • Mazal tov to Marsha Roth upon the marriage of her grandson Uriel, son of Daniel and Leora Roth, to Tal Sandak, daughter of Yael and Shemer Sandak of Modiin.
  • Mazal tov to Rebeca and Steve Zerobnick on the bat mitzvah of their granddaughter Halleli, daughter of Shirel and Assaf Shmuel of Efrat. Mazal tov also to grandparents Hagit and Yuval Shmuel from Efrat and to all the family.
  • Mazal tov to Chaya and Tuvya Klughaupt on the birth of a granddaughter to Tzvi and Noa Klughaupt.
  • We wish a refuah shelema to Menahem Zer Kavod, following his orthopedic surgery this week.

  • Yom Haatzmaut: On Tuesday, April 21, at 7:40pm there will be a festive maariv service led by Meir Fachler, and accompanied by Howie Kahn. Shacharit on Thursday will be as usual at 6:00am and 7:45am, with light refreshments following each minyan.
