"For Jerusalem's Sake I Will Not Be Silent" by Dr. Avraham David, published by the Bialik Institute, Jerusalem 2014:
"An opportunity to dive into the Jerusalem of more than 500 years ago!"

The book reveals a window into the world of the Jews in Jerusalem from more than 500 years ago onwards, and their extensive ties with the Diaspora.

Join an evening that is all about time travel, with lectures by Dr. Ruth Lamdan, Tel Aviv University, and Dr. Amichai Schwartz, Ariel University, who will discuss topics arising from the book, combined with a special tour of the museum.

יום ירושׁלים

כמנהגנו נחגוג את יום ירושלים בסעודה שלישית בשבת בהר-בחוקותי, כ"ו באייר 24/5, וגם בסיור כמפורט להלן.ביום רביעי, כ"ג באייר 21/5, ניפגש בשעה 16:00 בכיכר הדווידקה, מצוידים בכובעים ומים. משם, תמר הירדני הנפלאה תדריך אותנו לאורך רחוב הנביאים עד השעה 20:00, לפני שתכניות פיתוח מרכז העיר "תגלח" כמה בניינים בקצהו המערבי של הרחוב.

המעוניינים להשתתף בסיור מתבקשים להירשם אצל מוטי קהת 054-487-2292 או mkehat@gmail.com – וכן גם להעביר תשלום ₪60 למשתתף, תוך ציון סיבת התשלום "עבור הסיור". את זאת ניתן לבצע בהעברה בנקאית לחשבון בית הכנסת, או בתשלום מקוון בכרטיס אשראי כאן.

Yom Yerushalayim

As is our tradition, we’ll celebrate Yom Yerushalayim with se'uda shelishit on Shabbat, May 24th, as well as with a walking tour as follows.

On Wednesday, May 21st, at 4:00pm, we shall meet at the Davidka Square, equipped with hats and water. From there, the fabulous Tamar Hayardeni will guide us along picturesque and historical Havevi'im Street, with simultaneous translation, until 8pm.

Those interested in participating are requested to sign up with Mordy Kehat — 054-487-2292 or mkehat@gmail.com — and to transfer ₪60 per participant to the shul's account, indicating its purpose "for the tour" – either by bank transfer, or by online credit card payment here.

  • The Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony will take place at Beit Knesset Emek Refaim on Wednesday evening, April 23, at 8:00pm. Details here.
  • All are invited to an event honoring Dr. Efraim Zuroff on his retirement from the Simon Wiesenthal Center to be held on April 24. See details here.
  • Rav Vilk will give his regular Daf Yomi class at 6:30am; his drasha for Shabbat HaGadol will be given this week, shvi’i shel Pesach, after minha – the subject is “Matzah and Conflict.”
  • A request from the management of Beit Bart (on Derech Hevron): This Shabbat, shvi’i shel Pesach, many of the men will be away for Shabbat, and we are not certain we will have a minyan. We would appreciate any help from members of the Yael community: Maariv on erev Shabbat: 6:00pm; Shacharit: 8:00am. Thank you.

טקס ליל יום השואה והגבורה תשפ״ה

טקס ליל יום השואה והגבורה בבית כנסת עמק רפאים ביום רביעי, אור לכ"ו בניסן תשפ"ה (23.4.2025) בשעה 20:00.בהנחיית חוה דוד:

  • 19:45: תפילת ערבית.
  • 20:00: הדלקת ששה נרות על-ידי שׂורדי שואה.
  • לציון שמונים שנה לתבוסת המשטר הנאצי בגרמניה.
  • 20:10: הרב מאיר שורש משורדי השואה בהונגריה: "כי אתה עמדי" – משואה לתקומה. סיפור משולב בסרט דוֹקוּ-דרמה. הקרנת סרט דרך קטעים עלילתיים את הרגעים בהם ניצלו אמו והוא עצמו בהשגחה פרטית, וגבורתה הרוחנית של אמו במהלך השואה ולאחריה.
  • תפילת אל מלא רחמים על-ידי יונה הונל.
  • שירת "התקווה" "אני מאמין" וקדיש.

  • 8:00pm: Lighting of six candles by Holocaust survivors, marking the 80th anniversary of the defeat of the Nazi regime in Germany.
  • 8:10pm: Rabbi Meir Shoresh: Holocaust survivors in Hungary: "Because You Are My Helper"
    A beacon of resurrection, a story combined into a docu-drama film, through narrative segments of the moments in which his mother and he were saved by private providence, and his mother's spiritual heroism during and after the Holocaust.
  • "El Malei Rachamim": Yona Honel.
  • "Hatikva", "Ani Ma'amin" and kaddish.
