חכמים הבחינו שרמב"ם מייחס חשיבות רבה להלכות האחרונות שבכל אחד מארבעה עשר הספרים של משנה תורה. מעברים אלו מצביעים על ההשקפה הכוללת של רמב"ם בשאלות אתיות. נלמד את המעברים הללו בעברית ובאנגלית ונדון בהשלכות של חכמת רמב"ם על חיי היהודים בימינו.

Ethics in Rambam’s Mishneh Torah

Scholars have noticed that Maimonides places great importance on the last halakhot of each of the 14 books in his great legal code, Mishneh Torah. These passages stress ethics and Maimonides’ universal outlook. We will study these texts in Hebrew and English, and discuss what applications Maimonides’ wisdom has for Jewish life today.

EUGENE KORN has semichah from Pirchei Shoshanim and holds a PhD. in moral philosophy from Columbia University (New York City). He has taught general and Jewish philosophy at Columbia, Yeshiva and Seton Hall Universities. He was founding editor of The Edah Journal and has published more than 40 scholarly essays on Jewish thought, Jewish ethics and halakhah and Jewish-Christian relations. His writings have been translated into Hebrew, Spanish, German and Italian. He and his wife, Lila Magnus Korn, joined Bet Knesset Emek Refa’im in 2014.

It is actually a question of life or death, because of threats on his life and his desperation.

"מי שבירך" לחברוֹת הקהילה

החברים בקהילה זוכים ל"מי שבירך" כאשר עולים לתורה. הוועד החליט שמֵעתה גם החברות של הקהילה תזכינה ל"מי שבירך" שהגבאי יאמר עבור כל הנשים של הקהילה שיום ההולדת שלהם לפי הלוח העברי חל בשבוע אחרי אותה שבת. נֹאמר את ה"מי שבירך" אחרי העלייה השלישית.

אם ברצונֵךְ להיכלל בתפילה ה"מי שבירך” נא מלאי את הטופס עם שׁמךְ העברי המלא (כגון דינה בת יעקב או דינה בת יעקב ולאה) ותאריך העברי של יום ההולדת. אנחנו שואפים להתחיל בנוהג כבר בשבתות הקרובות.

“Mi Sheberach” for Women Members

Male members of our shul have a "Mi Sheberach" said for them whenever they receive an Aliyah LaTorah. The Va'ad has decided to institute a “Mi Sheberach” that will be said for women members on the Shabbat preceding their birthday in the Hebrew calendar. The “Mi Sheberach” will be said by the gabbaim after the third aliyah.

Women members who would like to be included in an annual birthday “Mi Sheberach” are asked to complete the form with the date of your Hebrew birthday (e.g., Nissan 12) and your Hebrew name (e.g., Dina bat Ya'akov or Dina bat Ya'akov v’Leah). If you are not sure of the date of your birthday in the Hebrew calendar, you can find it on your teu'dat zehut or you can simply enter into Google the date and year of your secular birthday followed by the words "in the Jewish calendar" (e.g., "June 10 1960 in the Jewish calendar") and you will be given the Hebrew date.

We hope to begin this custom sometime in the next few weeks.
